Chiaka Stewart was sent home from this Tampa General Hospital free-standing emergency room in Brandon in July 2021 but suffered a stroke two days later. She was awarded $71.8 million in damages after a two-week civil trial. But she may lose $51 million of that through a state law that caps "pain and suffering" damages for Medicaid patients to $300,000.
