I’m a breaking news reporter, which means I get to cover a little bit of everything. I want to make complicated events easier to understand and help Tampa Bay residents navigate their surroundings. I grew up in Brazil and in Houston, Texas, but Florida has been my home since I moved here to go to the University of Florida (go Gators!). When I’m not writing stories for the Times, you can find me hiking or reading mystery books.

    Larue Mathew Dorsey III, 46, died in the hospital after "an apparent medical event" in the Falkenburg Road Jail, according to deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

  10. ‘The night was real tough’: 4 missing boaters found alive off Clearwater coast

    A screenshot from a video released by the U.S. Coast Guard shows four men standing on their overturned power catamaran about 26 miles off the coast of Clearwater on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025. The four men left Clearwater on a fishing trip Monday morning and their boat started taking on water and then capsized about midday Monday. They spent the next 20 hours or so with their overturned boat before a Coast Guard plane spotted them.

    Tampa police detectives have launched a homicide investigation after a woman was found mortally injured at a Seminole Heights apartment complex Monday evening.
  12. Tampa men charged with smuggling computer chips to China

    Gregory Kehoe, U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Florida, is seen in June. On Friday, Kehoe announced four men are charged with illegally sending computer chips to China.
  13. USF investigating harassment of Muslim students’ prayer on Tampa campus

    In a screenshot taken from a video clip posted on Instagram by the University of South Florida's Muslim Student Association, two unidentified men, left and center, harass Muslim students during their morning prayer on the top floor of the Collins Boulevard parking garage on USF's Tampa campus on Tuesday. USF said in a statement that the university and campus police are investigating.

    Community leaders and friends of a professional DJ who was killed Friday gathered outside Tampa Police Department headquarters Monday. Speakers, pictured above in a screenshot from a Facebook video posted by Elvis Piggott, demanded that Tampa police release the name of the man who fatally shot Dedrick Sykes.
  15. Professional DJ fatally shot in Ybor City

    Dedrick "ShyGuy" Sykes, a Tampa Bay area DJ pictured above in a screenshot from his Facebook page, was fatally shot on Friday in Ybor City in what Tampa police said was a "roadway dispute."

  24. Hillsborough prosecutor drops charge for man accused of leaving dog before Milton

    The dog known as Trooper, who was found tied to a fence as Hurricane Milton approached Florida, is pictured after being rescued by the Florida Highway Patrol. Hillsborough prosecutors this week dropped the animal cruelty charge against the man accused of abandoning the dog hours before Hurricane Milton hit Tampa Bay last year.
